Sad girl summer is officially here thanks to Julia Jacklin! Announcing her new album PRE PLEASURE, set to arrive in August, the lead single ‘Lydia Wears A Cross’ is out now.

Offering up a more stripped back instrumental than we’ve ever heard from Julia, the track features little more than a grounding beat and atmospheric piano until it swells to the drum-filled big finale in a very Julia-esque teasing way. As always, the lyrics are front and centre, tackling the topics of religion, emptiness and youthful doubt.

While keeping her lyrics deeply introspective and personal, the upcoming third album was born out of a very different process as she packed up and moved to Canada to work with a different producer for the first time. “Making a record to me has always just been about the experience, a new experience in a new place with a new person at the desk, taking the plunge and just seeing what happens” she says.

“For the first time I stepped away from the guitar, and wrote a lot of the album on the Roland keyboard in my apartment in Montreal with its inbuilt band tracks. I blu-tacked reams of butcher paper to the walls, covered in lyrics and ideas, praying to the music gods that my brain would arrange everything in time.”

Immediately soaring to the top of our list of albums we can’t wait for, it’s so good to have Julia back.
