A lesson in sparsity

There’s nothing we love more than an artist making bold moves on a debut release. And on their debut EP Too Far Gone, Glasgow’s Terra Kin is already moving in a singular, unique direction. Managing to boil down the magic of modern live jazz into a 4-track showcase, there’s flavours of Amy Winehouse, slow jam RnB and Tom Misch sensibilities all mixed into there.

Released today alongside the new single ‘Shadows’, it’s a lesson in sparsity and conviction. Not overdoing it with too much going on, ‘Shadows’ especially refuses to push further than a live set could hold. With perfectly recorded vocals and echoing, simple guitar notes - it’s the kind of song that would hush a room, and has been all around the Scottish live scene for a while.

Talking about the track, Terra Kin said: “I’m a very vivid dreamer. I wrote Shadows after having a certain person revisit me in my dreams, dreams that were inescapable. They led to false narratives, and in turn made me romanticise this person. I refer to them as a shadow to symbolise the fact they weren’t actually physically there.”
