More about: Marcus Man
An indie-rock ballad. It’s a formula that has been done time and time again over the past couple of decades and a style of song that continues to find a place within the market today. The amount of people writing these kinds of tunes and the number of listeners they generate show that it’s a style of music that not’s going anywhere anytime soon. In a crowded market, Marcus Man manages to stand out with his new high quality and well thought out track ‘Relegated.’
The guitar playing in this song is sweet and easy to get behind, the lyrics are clever and fun, and the chorus is worthy of a sing-along just as much as any football chant. Throughout, Marcus talks about insecurities within a relationship, lacing those insecurities with different puns about football.
A lot of thought has clearly gone into the wording of this song and it pays off as you find yourself listening to see what kind of comparisons will be made next. “I found it easier to relate how I felt to the idea of my team getting “relegated” – hence the title,” said Marcus. “I’m a West Ham fan and ironically this season really isn’t looking too good… I genuinely think this might be the first love song to bring those two concepts together and I think it works quite well – at least in my head anyway.”
If you look for something a bit new in the way that music sounds and brings certain elements together, this probably isn’t the track for you. Marcus isn’t reinventing the wheel with the structure of the track or the way the chorus sounds. That being said, if you are a fan of indie rock and catchy choruses, this is certainly the track that you should be adding to your playlist. It’s a sound that can become predictable at times but with ‘Relegated’, Marcus has managed to make a gorgeous sounding tune that stands out in a relatively saturated genre.
