More about: sofy
Hot on the heels of a packed-out Glastonbury tent, a FIFA soundtrack selection and several BBC nods, Leicester-born singer/songwriter SOFY returns with her trademark blend of sprightly pop. Having accelerated considerably through 2022, her new EP Bored in Color (pt. 2), the first part proceeding last year, buzzes with fizzy guitar lines and whip-smart lyrics coupled with plenty of sincerity.

Back in 2020, as a result of a furlough, SOFY took up indie pop full-time. Gaining fans like Sam Fender, Arlo Parks along the way SOFY came runner-up in Radio 1's Live Lounge search for the best upcoming act in 2021. Having confidently described her style as ‘your next obsession’ SOFY’s bounding determination is infectiously found in her refreshing spin on ‘bedroom pop’. Bored In Colour (pt .2) furthers this artistic mettle and finds her exploring a range of new ideas from the jangly guitars of Egomaniac to the chirpy chorus of 'Just Mates'. It’s a thinking person’s cocktail of jovial melodies with an array of heartfelt and strikingly relatable lyrics. Such is the case on ‘btw’, a track laced with emotional intelligence, ‘let's pull the plug while we're both still in love’. Akin to her contemporaries, Lauran Hibberd & Baby Queen, SOFY comes from a new wave of self-aware artistry that whilst having pop at its core is brimming with fresh takes on indie, Hip-Hop and Rock.
To take things back to a simpler time of in-person rendezvous on 'Big Talk', SOFY is eager to escape the rigmarole of digital dating. ‘So much noise, but nothing cuts through / but I just wanna do it like our parents used to do’. As she noted in Pt 1 of the Bored in Colour project, she sought out the magic in the mundane. Now, again, her chipper nature and peppery edge fit the bill of the currently celebrated quirky character. On the surface Bored In Colour (Pt. 2) is teeming with fun and SOFY’s ability to put her thoughts to music put her in good stead for an equally busy, if not busier year ahead.
