With the album being a loose concept album, letting a bolder, more-confident version of keaton, his pop-star alter ego if you will, to step to centre stage. And on ‘I’m Not There’ we hear it clearer than ever. As an out-and-out classic rock track, with traces of americana country, it’s the song you want to hear when you’re racing down the highway (motorway doesn’t have the same ring to it.)
Featuring the boldest vocals we might have ever heard from Keaton, and a good old classic rock guitar solo that no one would ever dream of coming from the Keaton that made Dear or Birthdays. This new step for the artist is keeping us hooked in with every next move.
Talking about the track, Keaton says: “I think I started writing this having (accidentally) caught sight of a video of me on stage, and just thinking that I didn’t recognise any of myself in it at all. The song itself though is about coming home from performing, or touring, or just being someone else publicly, and feeling like you need to just sit still and look for who you really are. It’s about the wind down, where you allow yourself to be human and flawed, and the fear that maybe one day you’ll come home or offstage, look for that real you, and not be able to find it.”
House Party arrives June 9th.
