There is no getting around it, Lisa Ramey is a vocal powerhouse, and if you ever needed any evidence of that then you’re going to be able to find it on one of her brand new songs, ‘You Know.’ Fresh from her stint on the US Voice, Ramey is now taking to the mic and showing the world what she has to offer.

‘You Know’ is a lovely tune from start to finish. It’s relatively stripped back, with a simple plucking guitar sound doing a lot of heavy lifting and any percussion being pretty toned down, but that provides for a very smooth vocal melody throughout. Not only does Ramey’s voice sound excellent but the way in which she sings, the rhythm of the words and the overall ability conveyed throughout is something to behold.

The track is a part of her brand new album, ‘Broken Smile’, which was released earlier in the year. “The whole idea behind creating this album,” she said, “was to find joy in a scary world. Without joy what else is there? The project helped me trust people again, made me realise there are still kind and loving people out there ready to be a part of a historical project. I found myself. Recording it in my hometown made me dig deep into my St. Louis roots. I was able to eliminate the noise from NYC and really dig deep into my younger self. Nostalgia is a beautiful drug.”

The song is very good and a good reflection of what can be expected from the album. If you want stripped soulful music then you know where to find it.
