On first listen, it’s sounding more polished than anything we’ve heard from the band before. Lyric heavy with the same quick wit we’ve come to expect from Spector, the rolling instrumental dives more into a classic rock direction as a guitar solo from Dev Hynes set the tune soaring.
This is exactly the kind of next step we’ve been hoping would come from Fred Macpherson. A serial collaborator who has written with a whole host of ones to watch including Sophie May, Wallice, Jessica Winter and more. It’s nice to see his lyricism take centre stage here, stripping back some of the instrumental chaos of early albums.
Talking about the track, Fred said: "Lyrically it’s kind of a letter to one’s younger self - a reminder that repressing feelings and emotions is a dangerous precedent, and however bad (or good) things get, nothing is forever. It interpolates various parties, arguments, depressions and a Star Wars quote for good measure.”
Hopefully there is more to come - we’re very ready for the return of Spector.
