More about: Human Interest
This autumn marks a big moment for Human Interest as they will be releasing their brand-new EP. It’s been widely anticipated and now we get our first glimpse into the shape that it might take in the form of their new track ‘Step On’, which is a broody and romantic tune fit for dive bars and ballrooms.
I love this song. It’s one where before you even begin to explore what might be being said in the lyrics already has such a tone of voice in the way the instrumentation is put together that emotion rings through with every second. There is a constant rhythm present with the track, a steady and constant 1 2 3 4 in its drums and a thudding bass. If you were listening to it in the rain it would be the perfect backdrop for epiphany, in the sun it welcomes a happy memory montage, either way, it’s a lot of fun.
“It’s about appreciating the duality of yourself and your friends as it’s what makes us human,” say Harrison and Kelly, talking about the actual meaning of the track, “the phrase ‘this philosophy goes away’ refers to trusting the passage of time; that thoughts and feelings are momentary, and there’s a beauty in trusting your gut and allowing your inner-self to guide the way.”
The track comes after a string of single releases, each of which has been well received. The band now gear up for their first EP and if ‘Step On’ is anything to go by, we’re in for a good time. There are also plenty of opportunities to catch the band live in the coming months as they are doing various dates across London and Manchester.
