More about: The Family Rain
There is an unpredictability that comes with the new single by The Family Rain ‘It Ain’t Easy Being Mean’. The track starts with strings, quick and sharp, as well as a tinny vocal over the top. It’s an intro that opens itself up to a number of avenues. What you get is the introduction of a guitar, bass heavy drums and the beginning of an exciting rap verse. The other thing that you get is an unmoveable urge to nod your head.

Described by Classic Rock as “some sort of psychedelic hybrid of Spacemen Three and Led Zeppelin,” the track blurs elements of soul, hip-hop and blues in order to create a sonically charged spectacle. It’s one that sounds like the foundation of a track was thrown back in time with glue on it before being dragged through multiple influences and cultures, collecting bits and bobs in the process and ending up as something exciting and unique in the present day.
It's a song that’s quite hard to find fault with, plain and simple, it’s just a lot of fun to listen to. If you are looking for something that you can bob your head to and put on at parties, The Family Rain have you covered.
“For me it’s a song about becoming hard in a world which is full of pot holes and snake pits,” says band member Will, “your kind heart can take you a certain distance but over the years it’s been important to create a shell to survive and preserve what is left of our dwindling sanity.”
The track sees the band team up with Dylan Cartlidge, “we met Dylan Cartlidge through the producers of this record, Bad Sounds, and we immediately hit it off, Dylan has the same bullet headed drive and passion for what he does that we do and also makes damn find music in his own right.”
