Michael Eavis is to receive the prestigous 23rd Music Industry Trusts Award, it has been revealed.

The award is unique as it represents all different professions in the music industry, including producer, label executive and many more. This year it is representing live music promotion and Eavis will receive the award for his outstanding contribution to the UK's live music industry.

Over 175,000 people attend Glastonbury every year, which is a huge amount considering its humble 70's beginnings as Pilton Pop, Blues and Folk Festival. Now it is the world's largest green-field festival and every year helps to raise countless funds for both the music industry and for charity.

Of the nomination Eavis said: “When I set out on this crazy hippy trip 44 years ago, little did I know how this roller coaster would run. But now I have to pinch myself every morning when I wake up to the excitement of another day - heading up a team of the most creative artists anywhere in the world.”

Glastonbury takes place at Worthy Farm, Somerset between 25 - 29 June. This year Metallica, Kasabian and Arcade Fire will be headlining.
