Just when you thought the idea of The National playing London's O2 Arena couldn't get any better, it's now been announced that they'll be joined on stage by Sufjan Stevens. Yep, we're excited too.

Wild Beasts were already confirmed to be opening for the Trouble Will Find Me stars too, but now the line-up is complete, the band's last gig of the year is also destined to be one of the best.

"Our pal Sufjan Stevens had so much fun sitting in with us in Spain that he’s decided to join us in London at The O2 next week," wrote The National on Facebook. He will be performing with the group for the full set rather than as a support act.

The show will be the band's last on the current campaign before taking a break to work on their next album.

When asked about the next record's process Berninger told Gigwise: "Very slow, only because everybody wants to change the way we work from the past. Not because it doesn't work but I think we all feel that if we make another record like we've made the last three or four - we don't need to do that.

He continued: "We always work on little things and email back and forth. We have no idea whether it's going to work or not, but that's as far as we've got with the new record: trying to work out a plan and a different approach.

"That might fail miserably, but then we'll try it a different way."
