Libertines frontman and narcotics abuser Pete Doherty has expressed remorse over his former drug taking ways, saying that his addiction turned his life into a 'real fucking mess'.
Doherty has struggled publicly with drug addiction throughout his career, once infamously squirting an interviewer with a syringe filled with his own blood. Now, as The Libertines gear up for comeback gigs in Glasgow and a huge performance in London's Hyde Park as part of the British Summer Time series of shows, he has revealed his hope of getting clean.
"I would like to get rid of the damn drugs," he says in a new interview with The Daily Star. "It's no longer fun. On the contrary, it's just shit and kills all my creativity. But it's difficult to stop. My past life is a fucking mess, a real mess."
"It's gone wrong in so many ways," he added. "Although I don't believe in regrets - 'cause that offers nothing - but clearly some things I would like to change. I wish I had better contact with my family. I have caused so much crap."
Doherty caused concern in 2012 when he appeared at the Cannes Film Festival
The Libertines will perform a one-off gig at Glasgow Barrowland on 29 June 2014, a warm-up show ahead of their 5 July performance in Hyde Park. Tickets for both gigs are on sale now. For more information, visit Gigwise Tickets.
