It seems the campaign to get Rik Mayall's World Cup song has captured the hearts of many, as it looks likely that 'Noble England' will reach the Top Ten in the UK singles chart this week.

Mayall, who is best known for his roles in comedies such as The Young Ones, Bottom, Blackadder and Drop Dead Fred, died on Monday (9 May).

As fans flocked to pay tribute to the comedy hero, a Facebook campaign was set up attempting to get his 2010 World Cup song to No.1. The campaign has to far gained over 17,000 likes.

The song sees Mayall delivering a version of the famous speech from Shakespeare's Henry V alongside a football chart chorus. It entered the midweek charts yesterday (11 June) at No.38, but 24 hours later had shot up to No.11.

The Facebook page posted a status this morning saying: "What a day yesterday was. Rik have rocketed up the charts. He is now sitting just outside of the Top 10. We are on course, but we cannot afford any let up. Spread the word... Do it for England. DO IT FOR RIK."

The Official Charts are announced this Sunday on BBC Radio 1.
