Foals have discussed what to expect from their upcoming headline slot at Bestival 2014 - while also slamming bands who choose to perform 'cynical covers' to please crowds.
The band stepped up to headline status last year, with an acclaimed slot at Latitude Festival. Now, the Mercury-nominated band will be upping their game to take on Bestival in September.
When asked about what it takes to headline a festival by NME, Foals frontman Yannis Philippakis replied: "We should have something for Bestival. A lot of the time recently I've been realising that a lot of bands are doing like collaborations or they do covers. Sort Cynically employed covers and things like that .
He continued: "I don’t know whether to get involved in it or not. Because obviously it works and there's a reason why everyone's doing it, but I also just kind of want to play our own songs because we wrote them. And that's what we wanna play. We want to do a Foals show.
"Maybe I'm being a stickler about it, I'm not sure what we'll do for Bestival. We'll do something a bit above and beyond, but I think I'd rather just get some kind of ginormaous confetti cannon or shoot a monkey to the moon, rather than just do something that I felt like...we don't sit around and play covers so it would be kind of cynical to sit there and do some kind of early 90s rave cover because it has some kind of injected nostalgia value for the crowd."
Yannis added: "But I'm really looking forward to Bestival. That's our last show and that's a perfect way to go out. I think it's going to be sweet."
