Morrissey has lived up to his reputation for controversial comments in a new interview with Hot Press, in which he expressed hopes that Princess Anne would "gas Jamie Oliver."

The singer, who is a strict vegetarian, and has compared McDonald's to the the Norwegian massacre carried out by Anders Breivik, appeared on the cover of Ireland's Hot Press magazine this week.

During the interview, he discussed Britain's steps towards ending animal cruelty, saying: "It would be a great help if Princess Anne gassed Jamie Oliver. He's killed more animals than McDonald's."

The singer also discussed Scotland's forthcoming referendum to leave the United Kingdom: "They must cut ties with the United King-dumb. I love Scotland, and I love the Scottish spirit and they do not need Westminster in the least."

Morrissey cancelled a series of shows earlier this year, and blamed his support act for making him ill. He recently revealed plans for a show in Lisbon on 6 October.
