Radio 1's Jameela Jamil has unveiled a new project that aims to make live gigs better for fans with disabilities.
The Why Not People? project has been established through IndieGoGo, and describes itself as "A members club for disabled people. Hosting accessible live gigs exclusively for them & their mates".
Aiming to hit a target of £40,000 in pledges, the project is hoping to put on gigs in the future that don't exclude disabled fans from being closer to the stage, or relegating them to a certain area, and instead allowing everyone to immerse themselves in the live music experience equally.
Speaking about the project, Jamil said: "When I was young and living with a disability, I found that there was nowhere for me to go where I could just go out and party. Nowhere I felt equal. Nowhere that was made for people who needed just a extra helping hand. I am horrified that 10 years later, there isn't really a place in the entertainment world for people living with disabilities. I want us to all join in the revolution started by some incredible charities, companies and events like the Paralympics and Invictus Games... because Why Not... People?? I am lucky enough to have a job that gives me access to the world's biggest artists, all of whom haven't hesitated to support the cause!"
