Marshall Amps celebrate the life of Ian Curtis with photo of Sam Riley

A social media fail from the revered speaker firm

Marshall Amps tweet picture of Sam Riley rather than Ian Curtis Photo: Twitter

Despite their good intentions Marshall Amps have made a significant mistake this morning when paying tribute to Ian Curtis on Twitter by using a photo of actor Sam Riley.

To mark 35 years since his death, the speaker company sought to pay tribute to the late frontman of Joy Division. Unfortunately they inadvertently shared a photo of Sam Riley, the actor who played Curtis in Control, Anton Corbijn's 2007 film. The tweet, subsequently deleted, can be seen above.

A more fitting tribute to the late singer comes in the form of Rhino Records reissuing the band's entire output on vinyl. Unknown Pleasures, Closer, Still and Substance will be re-released on 180-gram vinyl throughout June and July. The expanded edition of Substance features two bonus tracks, 'As You Said' and the Pennine version of 'Love Will Tear Us Apart'. Unknown Pleasures and Closer will be available from 29 June, while Still and Substance will follow on 24 July.

This evening (18 May) Peter Hook & The Light are set to perform the entire back-catalogue of Joy Division at a one-off charity gig in Macclesfield.

Hook and his band will perform every track ever written and recorded by Joy Division at the May gig, which has been titled So This Is Permanence and takes place in the 18th Century Christ Church, Macclesfield.
