6 bizarre new music collaborations that could be amazing or awful

Rita Ora and Prince, 1D and Good Charlotte

Adele and Phil Collins: Collins recently told Inside South Florida that Adele reached out to him to work together on music for her new album. "I've just started to work with Adele. She contacted me to write together. I wasn't actually too aware [of her]. I live in a cave." To not be aware of Adele, we can only assume Collins literally does live in a cave.

The Flaming Lips and Miley Cyrus: They've performed together multiple times during Cyrus' Bangerz tour, as well as during this year's Billboards Awards, and have smoked weed together and posted it to Instagram (so edgy!) Now, Miley Cyrus and The Flaming Lips are working together on a Beatles covers album called, hilariously, With A Little Help From My Fwends.

Lana Del Rey and Brian Wilson: Lana Del Rey is just one of the artists from a bunch of left-field collaborations the Beach Boys star is planning for his new album. There's quite a significant chance that combining the brooding, slow-paced balladry of Lana Dey Rey with Wilson's Californian surf-pop could produce something incredible.

Beyonce and Barbra Streisand: Earlier this year, producer Walter Afanasieff posted on his website that he'd been working on Streisand's new duets album, which would feature Lady Gaga, John Mayer and Beyonce among many others. Hours later, the post was gone. It seems likely Afanasieff gave away the news too soon, but is a Barbra and Beyonce duet is something the world needs to hear?

Rita Ora and Prince: Ora spent a week with Prince at his Paisley Park studios to make music for her new album. "It was the best thing I have ever done in my life" said Prince to Paper magazine. No, wait, Rita Ora said that. That makes more sense.

One Direction and Good Charlotte: Well, Good Charlotte have not exactly been particularly... relevant in recent years, but we still wouldn't have predicted they'd be shacking up in the studio with X Factor phenomenons One Direction. In case you're worried One Direction aren't exactly creative talents, Liam Payne tweeted: "Think you'll find I've written a lot of the next album and songs on the last I play piano Niall plays guitar that ok?" Well said Liam, well said.

This week, The Beach Boys' Brian Wilson revealed that he's working with Lana Del Rey, Zooey Deschanel and Frank Ocean on his new album. The news was met with a fair few raised eyebrows, and more than a few angry comments. "Everything is ruined", said one fan with an admirable lack of perspective. Wilson's not the only one who's got an unusual collaboration coming up though.

Prince has been working with Rita Ora, One Direction have been working with Good Charlotte... there is no limit to the number of strange collaborations in the pipeline. The limit does not exist.
