Twin Atlantic descended into Brixton Academy on Thursday night and left absolutely no doubt that they are the real deal.
But first to their two opening acts: Lonely, The Brave left no doubt that they can play rooms this big. Their skyscraping sound was built for arenas and stadiums and in the confines of Brixton Academy, songs like 'The River' and 'Victory Line' sound massive. One of their most accomplished shows of their career and they'll end up headlining this venue eventually. Eliza & The Bear offered a more folky pop rock set, with standout songs 'Friends' and 'Oxygon' getting the crowd involved and dancing. Definitely a band to watch, especially when they headline KOKO in October.
Twin Atlantic arrive to the twangs of 'Bohemian Rhapsody' and the theme from Space Odyssey, before ripping through a 23 song set with aplomb. Opener 'Make A Beast Of Myself', snarls its way through, with the crowd singing every single word back, something that happens frequently. Even those fans who have never gone north of the border sing in a Scottish accent to mimic lead singer Sam McTrustys.
A massive 'Hold On' follows and shows off lead McTrusty's voice in a live setting like no other. Elsewhere in the set, the band get the tears and lighters going for 'Oceans' and 'Crashland' before an almighty 'Free' closes the main set. An encore triple threat of 'The Ghost of Eddie' 'Brothers & Sisters' and 'Heart & Soul' bring the curtain down on a landmark night.
Twin Atlantic have played every venue conceivable to get here. From the Peel pub in Kingston, to the academies and massive support shows, they've grafted to become this monster of a rock act. No-one deserves their success more than they do. A hard working, perpetually gigging band with great lyris lyrics and ridiculously large choruses? If tonight's show is anything to go by we genuinely think they'll headline festivals in the very near future.
