A cross-genre voyage

More about:

When it comes to bands blending styles, Brighton electro alt ensemble YONAKA are perhaps one of the best to do it in the scene. Take their breakthrough album Don’t Wait ‘Til Tomorrow, a body of work that truly encapsulated this Brighton four piece tunnel vision for turning out dynamic tunes designed for the thriving night clubs on the Brighton seafront to the manic mosh pits that unearth before them at shows.

Now aiming to expand their horizons to an even bigger picture, on YONAKA’s new EP Welcome To My House each track represents the function of a different room that inhabits a home, individually unique and taking on their own entirely different decoration, but all with the same purpose at the core of their furnishings.

And that same core lies within addressing mental health and the memories associated with it. No strangers to screaming at the top of their lungs on such a subject, Welcome To My House is a thematic sister record to Seize The Power. From lead single ‘PANIC’ rawly discussing how the brain deals with anxiety and panic attacks with rap pop ferocity to latest pre-release ‘Give Me My Halo’, a song that sees vocalist Theresa Jarvis tenderly turn from a shy caterpillar into a beautiful confident butterfly by its end.

"YONAKA cover all bases on their continued pursuit for a worldwide genre voyage"

The deeper cuts also cover this all basis attitude YONAKA have embraced tenfold on this EP. ‘I Don’t Care’ is a straight up pristine electronic riff fuelled gritty tune, constraining starkly to the rough and ready punk anthem ‘Hands Off My Money’, a born and raised mosh pit starter.

On Welcome To My House YONAKA cover all bases on their continued pursuit for a worldwide genre voyage, even if perhaps they take a detour along the way.
