'Chaotic...and eerily sweet'

A sold out show at one of London’s most iconic venues is an achievement in itself and this crowning career moment is only heightened when you consider that Wolf Alice’s debut album, My Love is Cool, is not even released for another three months.

Taking to the stage to rapturous applause, the London based four piece waste very little time erupting into debut single ‘Fluffy’ and right from the off the lively crowd give as good as they get. The set is made up of tracks from their critically acclaimed EP’s ‘Blush’ and ‘Creature Songs’ along with a nice showcase of new material from their upcoming debut album.

The insatiable ‘Blush’ from the aforementioned EP provides arguably the most triumphant moment of the evening as all in attendance repeatedly below in unison “punch drunk, pot luck, happy happy” over the top of Ellie Rowsell’s eerily sweet vocals. Recent single ‘Giant Peach’ is a certified anthem and undoubtedly one of the tracks of the year to date. The slow building intro complete with in-unison dancing from Rowsell and bassist Theo Ellis, the ridiculously catchy guitar hook from Joff Oddie makes for a immense closing number that see the already pumped up crowd sent into overdrive.

On return to the stage every chaotic moment of brilliance from the night comes to a head with encore closer ‘Moaning Lisa Smile.’ The raucous infectiousness of the song is undeniable and as gold confetti cannons explode on the baying crowd, the near 50 minutes shows comes to a triumphant end. Short and sweet, this is show that leaves you only imagining how far this grunge-pop quartet are going to go.
