The lead up to the release of the Foo Fighters' 8th full length LP is truly underway with a rather excited Dave Grohl telling everyone that it's "fucking on", along with how excited about the new release he is. As a result, speculation on what to expect from the new album has many a music fan eagerly awaiting its arrival.

As such we thought we'd go through everything that we know about the as yet untitled album, from instagram tweets from the band to rather outlandish statements made by Grohl.

So what do we know? It's going to be pretty awesome.

 1. The master tapes are finished

This picture was shared on Instagram by the band with the caption "it's fucking on" shows a rack of master tapes - meaning that the songs are all finished. All that is left is to record the final studio versions of the tracks...

2. Rehearsals made Dave Grohl's fingers bleed

During rehearsals for their Mexico comeback gig, the above picture was shared by the band, showing a guitar spattered by blood shed from too much shredding. Wherever this album is going know this - there WILL be blood.

3. It will be like 'nothing ever done before'

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Grohl made some rather lofty promises about the album, stating that the recording process for the album was totally unlike anything ever done before. "It’s badass," he said. "We’re doing something that nobody knows about, it’s fucking rad. We begin recording soon, but we’re doing it in a way that no one’s done before and we’re writing the album in a way that I don’t think has been done before."

4. It is being recorded in 12 different studios

Following the release of Sound City, a film on the studio Grohl is infatuated with, an insider told Billboard that he was scouting 12 locations to record the next Foo Fighters album. Sound City is clearly locked down as one location, the Seattle studio were he recorded with Nirvana is potentially being another and the band were recently spotted in Chacago. Could this be then "never done before" recording process Grohl was reffering to?

 5. Expect the unexpected

While warming up for their huge Mexico gig the band played an impromtu set at a small pizza restaurant in California. This is the kind of fan service that the band always love to pay to their audience, so expect unexpected at anytime anywhere. Keep an eye on your local takeaway...

6. Fans are could hear new material at a homecoming gig

Campaigners on crowdfunding site Crowdhoster have raised $8400 at times of writing in an attempt to have the band play a homecoming show for the first time in 15 years. They're selling 1,400 tickets - but the band is so far not involved in the show. The organisers are positive about the prospects of the band playing.

7. It's halfway done!

Pictured above are a rather sleepy looking Grohl and producer Butch Vig who have been working tirelessly on the new album. Vig recently told Kerrang!: "We're almost halfway done with the recording and it's going well. It sounds different – we've thrown a few things into the mix, in the recording process, that are going to give the record a different sound and a different feel. It's been a challenge, but it’s also been exciting."
