Nothing can quite move you like the movies do as they take everything that we like about all other aspects of art, be it visual, written or sound, and combine them into one. This also means that there are more aspects that can let a film down as poor direction, acting or soundtrack can hinder the whole thing. So, if you’re creating a dark and humorous tale about the illegitimate son of the world’s most famous witch, where do you go for your soundtrack?

“Let’s Eat Grandma were the first track on the mood playlist that I put together for the show,” said executive producer Colm McCarthy, “even though they had never done a score before it just felt like they would do something original and authentic. Something about the score coming from such young voices feels really cool in this story about the transition from childhood to adulthood.”

Rosa Walton and Jenny Hollingworth, the musical duo who make up Let’s Eat Grandma, were happy to welcome the challenge. In doing so, they have produced a soundtrack that not only adds to the series but also works as a standalone album, given the ambience it creates upon listening.

“Working on the OST for The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself has certainly been a very informative process and a wonderful new experience which has shaped and broadened the way we write and think about music,” they said, “we’re always looking for ways to move forward musically, and we think being part of a bigger project with lots of other people all working creatively in different ways has been so valuable and inspiring.”

‘The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself’ is now available on Netflix and the soundtrack can be listened to on all streaming platforms.
