A fusion of ambient house beats and summery pop vocals, 'So Cruel' comes together beautifully as a track which you could just as easily dance to as blissfully listen to lazing in a field nursing a hangover. The band themselves said of the track, "There is a refreshing sex appeal to this downtempo track that keeps us tied in a triangle of love."

The trio comprise frontman Matthew Vlahovich, Jake Palahnuk and Taylor Hill, all of whom hail from Toronto. They formed in 2010, but have yet to release a full LP, and 'So Cruel' is an exciting taste of what the band are capable of. The track was produced by Stephen Kozmeniuk, who has worked with the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Madonna and Nicki Minaj - not artists with which you would automatically associate Young Empires upon hearing the woozy chilled-out house track.
"As to the production," they said in a press release, "we borrowed from a wide range of musical influences, including soul, future house, and footwork, but also wanted 'So Cruel' to remain distinctly contemporary and worldly."
