Blur have spoken out to say that they would have loved to replace Foo Fighters at Glastonbury Festival, however other commitments meant that they can't.
Earlier this month saw Foos frontman Dave Grohl break his leg at a gig in Sweden, before they were forced to cancel remaining UK and European dates and allowing Florence + The Machine to move up the bill to headline.
Blur were among the short-lived rumours to be taking the Foos place, and now drummer Dave Rowntree has admitted that it's an opportunity they would have relished.
"We've always said that we're not playing Glastonbury, so when they call up and say 'you know when they say they're not available, do they mean they're not available?' We're not available," he told NME.
When quizzed on if they'd have stepped up to replace Foo Fighters' headline slot, Rowntree replied: "We probably would if we could have done, because who doesn't want to play Glastonbury? But we can't, so that's that."
"It's the most fun festival in Europe, really. It's the emotion from the crowd - the crowd are really supportive of what's going on stage, in way that they not really are in other places. Festivals can be more about fashion, food and the other stuff, but Glastonbury's all about the music. People have brought their tickets before they even know who's playing so I don't think it will be that much of a disappointment. Obviously Foo Fighters fans might be, but no one bought a tickets to see the Foo Fighters so Florence + The Machine will be just as good."
