A new clip from the forthcoming documentary AMY has been unveiled, in which Amy Winehouse opens up about her experience with depression.

The singer, who died from alcohol poisoning in 2011 and had suffered from substance abuse, eating disorders and depression throughout much of her adult life, is the subject of a forthcoming documentary directed by Asif Kapadia.

The film includes interviews with Winehouse's family and friends alongside unseen archive footage, home videos and interviews.

In a newly revealed clip, Winehouse says, "I don’t think I knew what depression was. I knew I felt funny sometimes, and I was different. I think it’s a musician thing, that’s why I write music."

She continued, "But I’m not like, some messed up person. There’s a lot of people that suffer depression that don’t have an outlet, can't pick up a guitar for an hour and feel better."

AMY is released in the UK on 3 July, and was screened at Glastonbury Festival last night (25 June) to a packed out tent.
