Facebook have denied reports that the company are planning to follow Spotify and Apple in launching a music streaming service.

Yesterday, thanks to sources speaking off the record to Music Ally, reports began circulating that the social media site is planning to launch its own music stream service. The reports cited this as a natural next step following Facebook's trial of native videos (videos that play only on Facebook, rather than on something like YouTube).

The report claimed that "things are at an advanced stage, with a rollout expected to happen in the next few months." It also suggested that the company planned to build, rather than buy, its streaming service.

Now though, a spokesperson for Facebook has denied the rumours, telling Billboard the company has "no plans to go into music streaming." Music Ally did attempt to contact Facebook before publishnig their report, but no-one was prepared to respond "either on or off the record."

Streaming has become an increasingly important part of the music industry, with the UK charts recently integrating streaming figures into how they calculate chart positions.
