Is the end nigh for Brand New? Jesse Lacey seems to think so

There is a silver lining for fans though...

Is the end truly nigh for cult Atlanta alternative rockers, Brand New? Although Jesse Lacey has become infamous for making speeches suggesting that the band’s demise is imminent, we’ve never taken him as seriously as his recent address to a crowd in Tennessee this weekend. You can watch the footage below.

Fighting back the tears during an extended speech to the crowd, Lacey strongly suggested that the band wouldn’t be around for much longer, but a new record was probably emerging before they disappeared for good.

“This will be the last show we play for a while,” he said. “”I’m gonna have a new daughter. We’ll hopefully have a record for you. I wanna tell you right here and now, this isn’t gonna last much longer, but it’s been so special for so long. For as long as it does last, we’re so grateful to you all for being here.”

Before dropping the bombshell that left one perplexed attendee repeatedly saying “what” over and over again, Lacey praised his fellow bandmates and explained that he didn’t feel adequate to share the stage with them. “But I know - I know - that Garrett and Brian and Vinnie are. Without those three, I would never have gotten this far.”

The statement brought him to tears and the band emerged from the sides to give the blubbering genius a warm embrace.

Get your tissues at the ready and watch the footage below

You can read our review from the band's recent Alexandra Palace show, where I got the sneaking suspicion that Lacey was alluding to the end of one of the most innovative alternative rock acts on our tiny little planet.
