Panic! At The Disco frontman Brendon Urie has spoken out since his band’s latest album knocked David Bowie and Adele down the music charts in the US.
Death Of A Bachelor is Panic!’s fifth album but first No.1, selling 190,000 albums in its first week. Urie remains the only original member since the start of Panic! after his fellow bandmates left the group over the years.
“That's insane. I mean, to be in same sentence as anyone like that - I'm not worthy," Urie told Billboard. "I was just floored!"
As a result of losing his bandmates, the new Panic! album became more of a solo project for Urie. "It's amazing because I don't have to compromise or I don't have to argue as much," he said. The singer co-wrote the album’s songs and played most of the instruments on the project.
Speaking to Gigwise, Urie said that he was enjoying writing independently from Ryan Ross who used to write all the songs, “We had different strengths. He was writing lyrics and reading a lot more than I was and I had jazz band experience so I knew the chords and was telling the band their names. So we were each able to bring something new to the table. I’ve always had that instrumentality and musicality, but being able to take over lyrically is really exciting because I’ve never considered myself a lyricist.”
