Damon Albarn has enlightened the world with his opinion on Taylor Swift, Drake, Future and Rihanna in a new interview.
The Blur frontman is currently working on the much-anticipated new Gorillaz album with Jamie Hewlett, and is also preparing to open his Alice In Wonderland musical, Wonder.land in London.
Speaking to Rolling Stone ahead of these two ventures, Albarn provided his opinion on some of the biggest stars in music today. It probably wouldn't be fair to criticse his dismissal of Taylor Swift in this instance - "Remarkable, but not unique" - given that they asked his opinion of her without prompt or context.
On Kanye West, Albarn said, "I think he's pretty unique." Drake, he believes, is "not as consistent as he could be," and Rihanna? "Well, she's on the cover of NME, so she must be cool." By that logic, Chris Moyles is cool too.
Albarn has been fairly vocal in the past about his thoughts on modern music. Speaking to The Sunday Times Culture magazine, Albarn said, "But look at music now. Does it say anything? Young artists talk about themselves, not what’s happening out there. It’s the selfie generation. They’re talking platitudes."
He added, "What are any of them saying? I don’t hear anything other than: ‘This is how I feel.’"
