Despite losing out to Martin Garrix as ‘Best EDM Artist’ at the European Music Awards, Calvin Harris was crowned king of the EDM genre by the American Music Awards 2015, for the second year running.
The vote-based awards show swayed in favor of Calvin Harris over club legend David Guetta and house DJ, Zedd. ‘How Deep Is Your Love’, released this summer, reached the top 10 spot in 22 countries, securing Harris international recognition as 2015’s number 1 EDM artist.
The award came as a bit of a surprise, however, as Harris has not released an album since Motion, in late 2014. Nevertheless, ‘Summer’, ‘Blame’ and ‘How Deep Is Your Love’ all kept Harris’ name alive in the 2015 charts. David Guetta, whose last single was released in March 2015, has remained quite quiet.
Nevertheless, Guetta’s reputation as an Ibiza floor seems to remain unparalleled as he became the third artist to receive 2 billion streams on Spotify earlier this year. Zedd has also had a highly successful year. His No.1 album, True Colors, earned the EDM artist international success, with a subsequent tour placing him alongside The Roots and Widespread Panic as headliners for the Counter Point Music and Arts Festival.
Harris will be embarking on his North American tour in December. Zedd is currently on his UK tour. Get tickets and more information here.
