Vic Mensa, an artist signed to Jay Z’s Rocnation along with ‘U Mad’ collaborator Kanye West, joined protestors on the street after a Chicago police officer was charged with the murder of teenager Laquan McDonald. Watch the video of protests below.
Yesterday, a graphic and disturbing video was released of a Chicago police officer shooting teenager Laquan McDonald 16 times. Officer Jason Van Dyke has now been charged with murder.
In response to yesterday's events, protesters rightly took to the streets of Chicago to show unity and demand justice for the tragic incident. Rapper Vic Mensa was amongst the large crowds that walked through the streets of their city, Consequence of Sound reports.
Twitter user @MalcolmLondon filmed Mensa and spoke with him about why he was protesting, with the rapper explaining that a police officer had laid hands on him moments before. "I just got hands put on me by police. We want justice for Laquan and we want justice for our people," he said.
The New York Times reports that Officer Jason Van Dyke, 37, has been with with the Police Department for 14 years and is the first Chicago police officer in decades to be charged with murder in an on-duty shooting.
