Lorde has revealed how she handled her nerves before taking to the stage at the BRIT Awards to sing 'Life On Mars' in tribute to David Bowie.
Following a beautiful and moving opening from Annie Lennox and Gary Oldman, Lorde performed the Bowie classic with the help of his old backing band - much to the approval of his son Duncan Jones, producer Tony Visconti and the world at large.
Now, she has spoken of the 'honour' of the performance, revealing that she imagined she was 'singing to David':
such an honour getting to perform #BRITs2016 paying tribute to my hero

i was so nervous in the wings, and then i whispered to myself "just sing it to david", and nothing else mattered

also, performing with bowie's brilliant touring band - including the inimitable @mikegarson who played DB's keys since the 70s! - was unreal
