The crash investigator into the incident that killed Viola Beach and their manager has denied previous comments that the driver may have acted deliberately.

All four members of the rising Warrington indie stars and their manager Craig Terry lost their lives when the car they were driving in left a bridge and crashed 82ft into the canal below back in February.

Yesterday, lead investigator Lars Berglund made headlines when he said: "It looks like the driver acted deliberately."

"The driver overtook parked vehicles, using an off-limits part of the bridge. It's not natural to carry on driving if there's a stop sign, parked cars and blinking red lights."

Publication Aftonbladet also claims to be the only media to have seen surveillance video of the moment before the crash, which reportedly shows the car pausing behind two vehicles, before accelerating past cars and lorries and crashing through the barriers.

Now, Berglund has clarified his comments by telling The Mirror: "I have not suggested that [the driver] was doing this in order to kill himself or the band. I said he was making a move from the right lane to the left lane and that was not accidental. "We can see the brake lights. His intention was to stop the car. But maybe his speed was too high and it was too late."

Former tourmates Blossoms have previously paid tribute to Viola Beach as a 'great gang and brilliant band', after their single 'Swings & Waterslides' entered the charts at No.11 in tribute
