After teasing fans on social media this week, the long-awaited return of The Avalanches has been confirmed - with the Aussie electro heroes confirming their first live shows in 15 years.

The world has been waiting for new material from the 'Frontier Psychiatrist' since their debut album Since I Left You in 2000. There were rumours that the follow-up was set to emerge in 2014, but they never came to pass.

This week saw fans excited as their social media accounts were updated with the image of a golden butterfly. Now, their return has been announced - with the band announcing three comeback shows at Spain's Primavera Sound, London's Field Day and Australia's Splendour In The Grass.

As early as 2007, the band told fans that they were working on a new 'hip-hop inspired album'.

Postin on their website, they said: "It's a really thrilling time for us right now as this record comes together, its so fuckin party you will die, much more hip hop than you might expect, and while there is still no accurate estimated time of arrival, were sure you're gonna love it when it arrives.

"Much of last year was spent cutting up the spoken word/instructional records we need to tell the album's musical story, and we have some 40 odd songs we're narrowing down and finishing. So it's real, it exists, and you know we wouldn't be serving anything up unless it was gonna give you that same special feeling that since has. funnily enough its ended up sounding like the next logical step to since, we just had to go around in a big circle to get back to where we belong."
