As the world continues to mourn the death of the 85 men, women and children who were killed in last week's terror attack on the city of Nice in France, it has now emerged that U2 frontman Bono was rescued from the scene by local police.
Bono owns a home in the nearby town of Eze, and was said to be dining with former Nice mayor Christian Estrosi at La Petite Maison last Thursday night - just next to the Promenade des Anglais where the attrocities took place when a truck mowed down hundreds as they celebrated Bastille Day.
“It took around half an hour for the police to get us out,” a witness and fellow diner told The Mirror. “Like everybody else, Bono had to put his hands on his head, and was told to remain calm.”
Reacting to the Bastille attacks, U2 posted on Facebook:
Bono was also in Paris at the time of the ISIS attacks on the Bataclan and beyond back in November.
