London's infamous nightclub, Fabric, has announced that it will be shutting its doors this weekend following the drug-related deaths of two teenagers.
The first incident occurred on 25 June when one 18-year-old male fell ill in the club. The second incident happened last weekend when another 18-year-old collapsed outside of the club at 8:20am and was pronounced dead shortly after.
Whilst neither deaths are being treated with suspicion, the club has said on its website: "For the past two years Fabric has operated without incident, but tragically in the past nine weeks two 18-year-old boys have died as a consequence of drug overdoses."
The London club, continued: "In order to understand how this has happened we have agreed with the police and other agencies to suspend our operation while we investigate. The club will therefore be closed this weekend.”
The club has also promised that all tickets will be refunded and a further statement will be issued this week.
Fabric has been marred with problems over the last three years. Due to drug-related incidents, the club has been under constant scrutiny from The Metropolitan Police, and Islington Council.
In December 2014, the Metropolitan Police asked that the council "seriously consider" revoking the club's license. Yet, the club remained open, with Islington council imposing stricter conditions under which the club operates. Sniffer dogs and ID Scans became a permanent fixture, but were later revoked the following year with the club citing that the use of sniffer dogs undermined the efforts to confiscate drugs on the door.
