Premiered by Radio One’s Annie Mac, ‘Garden’ is the latest track from Emeli Sandé, featuring Jay Electronica and Áine Zion.
A sexy, brooding track rendered with smoky ruminations and flashes of vivid emotion, It’s a song that’s both a surprise and a revelation.“‘Garden’ is one of my favourite songs from the album,” Sandé says. “It is an expression of freedom and passion, two important parts of life which I hadn't really explored until a few years ago. It was a great honour to work with the genius Jay Electronica and I'm very excited to introduce a very special talent, Áine Zion.”
Opening with a languid, almost ethereal introduction from featured artist Áine Zion, she says, “I’m not telling you to love what I love; I’m asking you to take time to know who it is that you love and are in love with”. In kicks the beat and Sandé weaves her way into the track, with her world class distinctive and alluring voice.
“In the club, how you dance, how you touch, how you offer up your love and devotion”, she sings, recalling the intoxicated feeling and infatuation that comes from attraction on the dance floor. Then the much lauded enigmatic rapper, Jay Electronica, gives a rare performance and cements his mark with his dexterous and near mythical flow - “Love is like a garden; love is like a death sentence; love is like a pardon - I’m free again, I’m ready.”
‘Garden’ manages to be both reminiscent of Sandé’s urban roots, while also taking her into unchartered territory. Not only does the song present a more insightful, perception shifting look into Emeli Sandé, it continues to represent the sense of unreserved freedom and artistry that lies recent single ‘Hurts’, as well as at the bedrock of new album Long Live the Angels, due out November 11th.
As one of the most anticipated releases this year, Long Live the Angels shot to the top spot of the album pre-order chart on announcement and continues to remain in the Top 5 a month on. Single 'Hurts' remains in the iTunes Top 10 and is currently number two on the airplay chart and Sandé’s recent tour of intimate shows sold out in nine minutes and received huge critical acclaim across the board.
