Olly Murs pulled out of his Olympic and Paralympic parade show set in Manchester after being told to "completely change" his set 24 hours before the show.

A spokesman for the pop star revealed the news and management said it was decided he's pull the show as a consequence.

Seemingly a blip on the side of whoever made the suggestion, the council kept vage about the reason saying it was down to "unforeseen circumstances".

Kaiser Chiefs, who are doing well with their new album, stepped up to fill the vacant spot left by the former X Factor contestant turned global superstar to play to thousands of people who gathered in Albert Square to greet the Olympic heroes.

The council also added: "We have a very successful track record for working closely with major artists on events in Manchester, and this is the first time an artist has pulled out."

At the time he was supposed to be playing the homecoming show Murs was spotted, attending the Liverpool v Manchester United Premier League game, which drew 0-0. Manchester councillor Pat Karney then tweeted: "Lets just say we won't be asking him to switch on our Christmas lights. Not impressed. pk."

But according to his management: "Olly was asked to play the Olympic and Paralympic parade in Manchester on Monday and as a huge supporter of the Olympics agreed wholeheartedly," said a statement. It added: "Sadly after weeks of preparation, 24 hours before the parade he was told to completely change what had been agreed with his performance, and as such his team made the decision to pull him from the show."
