The Strokes have hinted that the release of their sixth studio album shouldn't be too far away, stating that the record could be ready to drop in 2017.
Speaking to NME, guitarist Nick Valensi said "The Strokes are alive and well and living in New York City. We are working on music and we want to put out music hopefully next year".
While this news is sure to excite fans of the NYC icons, Valensi admitted he doesn't want to add fuel to the fire in terms of hype and expectations that surrounds their return: "... people just get too excited and then there’s all this hype you’ve got to compete with and that’s not fun. If anything I’d rather just pull a Beyonce next year and just drop shit.” So mysterious.
Currently promoting a solo project CRX - which has rock royalty Joshua Homme at the production helm - Valensi also updated Zane Lowe in a Beats1 interview: The five of us and all our issues are in the studio together - it's really awesome music we're working on." Listen to the full interview here.
Julian and co have already given a glimpse of their current sound with the release of their EP Future Present Past, released earlier this year - but we haven't had a full-length effort since 2013's Comedown Machine.
While the five-piece keep us guessing by being as elusive as ever, you can almost hear the whispers of a Glastonbury 2017 appearance begin - we can only hope!
CRX (formed by Nick Valensi) will release their debut album on October 28.
