US singer Taylor Swift netted herself over $170 million (£137 million) in the past year according to reports.
Forbes highest paid list has Miss Swift as number one and Adele taking up the runner-up spot.
26 year old Swift amassed earnings of £137 million over the past year and it dwarfed her nearest rival Adele, who pulled in £65 million.
Taylor Swift Earns While on Holiday
The figures are amazing due to the fact that for the most of 2016 the artist was on holiday with her then boyfriend (and potential 007) UK actor Tom Hiddleston.
The actor and the American singer were seemingly joined at the hip until their much hyped romance imploded after a very intensive burst of publicity shots and photo opportunities.
Many thought the romance was a publicity stunt to boost Hiddleston’s US standing and to promote Swift in the UK along the way. We will probably never know what is true. The relationship lasted for three months and even saw them dubbed ‘Hiddleswift’.
Endorsements and Touring
Swift has not only her live appearances and CD’s to her name, there are also some highly lucrative endorsement deals with the likes of Diet Coke, Sony and shoe company Keds.
It seems according to reports that an artist can earn more by touring than anything else. UK singer Adele is said to have earned approximately £179,000 a day for her most recent tour.
'1989' Tour Earnings
Taylor Swift of course eclipsed this and her ‘1989’ tour is said to have brought her a nice little £160 million-plus payment.
There are very few singer/songwriters or bands who can make money without touring their wares. Most need to hit the stadiums and arenas to make ends meet.
Highest Paid Women in Music
The Forbes list of female earners this past year sees Swift and Adele take the top two spots, they are followed by Madonna (£62million), Rhianna (£60 million), Beyonce (£43 million), Katy Perry (£33 million), Jennifer Lopez (£32 million), Britney Spears (£24 million), Shania Twain (£22 million) and Celine Dion (£21 million).
