Anyone that’s ventured to the Snowdonia Mountain Range would know that the naturally occurring phenomena provide its own rhythm and melodies, deeming musical soundtrack unnecessary. The babbling rivers, the whipping winds and the resounding tranquility are enough to satisfy your audial senses.
Now imagine a musical trio that cause exception to this. CaStLeS provide a mixture of pulsing beats and hard hitting guitars blended expertly with soothing psychedelic vibes and hypnotising vocals, transporting you to the idillic landscape no matter where you are.
CaStLeS were formed back in 2008 by two brothers Dion and Cynyr Hamer, with Calvin Thomas eventually joining them. The band took a hiatus in 2011 for the brothers to tour Europe and America with the band We Are Animal. They burst back into the scene in 2015 with two Welsh language singles ‘Argau’ and ‘Ar Agor’. The positive reception to these singles led to them being selected as one of 12 bands to be endorsed by the BBC Horizons/Gorwelion project, and then to performing on the BBC Introducing Stage at Reading and Leeds Festival 2016.
Their debut and self produced album Fforesteering (recorded on a 16 track in Cynyr’s static caravan in Ceunant) was released in November 2016, and is a pleasure to listen to. Imagine the psychedelic reverb filled vibes of King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard infused with the melodic and harmonic capabilities of bands such as the Super Furry Animals.
