Orchestral pop artist Meilyr Jones has had a fantastic 2016, delivering mind-blowing live show night-after-night across Europe in support of superb, career-best album 2013.
His band, which include: Villagers' Gwion Llewelyn (drums), Younghusband's Euan Hinshelwood (guitar), Simon Tong (trumpet), Richard Jones (trumpet), and Emma Smith (violin), are all excellent.
But the way the band plays live is differs slightly from the heavily orchestrated album and watching this video of them playing 'Return To Life' in SWN festival is a close representation of them on stage. The band are playing in intimate surrounds to a captivated audience and Jones is completely immersed giving his all, as always.
What's clear from the performance is his charisma as a frontman deserves comparisons to one of his idols, David Bowie, and musically it's fantastically diverse and imaginative; drawing inspiration from a tasteful tapestry of pop and classical influences. They deserve to win the Welsh Music Prize on Thursday (24 November).
The band head out on tour in December to cap off a tireless year before beginning Spring 2017 with some huge headline shows. Don't miss them.
