New York legends Blondie have announced details of a new single written by former Smiths plank spanker Johnny Marr as well as a special UK lived date at the iconic Roundhouse venue in north London.
‘My Monster’ was written by Marr especially for the band and according to the Blondie is about “the beast in all of us… [that hits] that unique Blondie sweet spot between rock, pop and electronica that made classic hits like ‘Atomic’ such a blast.” So now you know.
Speaking of the song, Marr commented: “It was an honour to be asked to do something for Blondie. I think it's turned out great.”
Meanwhile, Blondie have confirmed that they are set to play The Roundhouse on 3 May – just two days before the release of their new album, Pollinator. Blondie last appeared at the Roundhouse as part of the Apple Music Festival in 2014. They first played at the venue in 1978 as they broke through to a wider audience.
Elsewhere, Marr has stated that he has no intention of shying away from the weightier matters of the day – especially in light of the election of US president Donald Trump and the Brexit referendum.
Speaking at the NME awards 2017 he said for musicians “It’s not really a time for being meek and sitting on the fence, but that’s everybody’s own personal choice."
Blondie's upcoming live date is below. Tickets go on pre-sale 10am 22 February. Check here for ticket information.
