XL Recordings head Richard Russell has released a new collaborative EP under the pseudonym Everything Is Recorded. The collection of tracks is titled Close But Not Quite and is available today (May 12).
Russell's personal work space and studio - The Copper House, close to XL HQ - welcomes a revolving door of fresh talent, established artists and experimentation, which is captured on this new release.
The creative hideaway invited in guests Sampha, Giggs, Obongjayar, Tic, Warren Ellis, Infinite, Mela Murder, Green Gartside and Baluji Shrivastav to collaborate on the five EP tracks.
Opener 'Close But Not Quite' features South London singer and producer Sampha, who sings over a sample of Mayfield's 1970 track 'The Makings Of You, while Giggs recontextualizes Gil Scott-Heron's 'Me and the Devil' on 'Early This Morning'.
Separate simplistic black and white visuals accompany the pieces of music. Check out 'Early This Morning' feat. Giggs below:
There's more to come from this project, with Close But Not Quite being the first of several Everything Is Recorded releases planned for 2017.
The Close But Not Quite tracklist is as follows:
1. Close But Not Quite feat. Sampha
2. Early This Morning feat. Giggs
