Artbreak have shared the video for their debut single 'Will To Survive' exclusively with Gigwise ahead of its release on 1 June.
The promo sees the post-punk five piece from South London running riot around Brixton, alongside footage from their recording session with legendary producer and longtime David Bowie collaborator Tony Visconti.
Although this is their first single to officially go on sale, the band have been promoting their passionate and uncompromisingly romantic sound by sharing demos through Soundcloud and YouTube. They've already attracted the admiration of Primal Scream and Adam Ant, both of whom invited them to support them live, and 6Music's Tom Robinson.
The song sees singer Cole Salewicz casting himself in the classic outsider struggling with the notions of identity and survival in a cruel and frightening world. Their sound has been given an effortlessly classy sheen by Visconti, with Cole's distinctive vocals sounding more strident and confident than ever and the band combing post-punk spikiness with hints of indie rock jangle and glam rock abandon.
Visconti paid tribute to Artbreak's talent, describing the band as “a brilliantly clever young band” and adding that he loves working with any singer who is able to commuicate their feeling as directly and immediately as Cole.
“You know,” he says, “something that comes directly out of the mouth. All the cadences, the smooth and the rough parts delivered with real focus and intensity. That's a good sign, that's a good start.”
Cole, in turn, says he learnt a lot about “kindness and killer bass tone” working with Visconti.
“He’s a funny, gentle and down to earth dude who knows how to lead a room full of hungry kids, and he’s still got that same hunger. That’s what is so amazing really, he’s as hungry as ever for great songs and sounds. He just wants to be immersed in the track.”
