'Song For A Friend' and 'Playing With Fire' star Andreya Triana has written and submitted a James Bond theme.
Speaking with Gigwise at the Ivor Novello awards the singer, who has worked with the likes of Flying Lotus, Mr. Scruff, and Bonobo said: “I’ve written a Bond theme. I have put one forward.”
Her revelations came as we were discussing the legacy of - RIP - Chris Cornell, and the fact he had written and performed the Casion Royal theme. She wasn't wise to his back catalgoue but now has this in common.
In terms of the creative approach to writing the Bond theme, she said Adele’s existing track isn’t something she had to shut out. “I wasn’t trying to avoid that. I think there’s definitely a palate of themes of words of sounds so I really enjoyed delving into that and getting in a Bond frame of mind.”
Triana was at the Ivor Novello’s because she was a judge on the panel for best album which went to Laura Mvula – a singer who was dropped from her record label via email.
She praised the Novello’s for having a ‘varied’ and ‘wide spectrum’ of genres in the nominations.
Of her own forthcoming third album, she said: “I’m thinking about life, expression and emotion. The albums going to be called Life In Colour. Everything is already written, we started recording already in Ladbroke Grove - not LA or New York this time. I want to be able to go home and be in my pajamas. It will be out early next year. A judge for album of the year.
When asked about any interesting co-writes, she responded: “Yeah. I wrote one with Paul O’Duffy who wrote ‘Wake Up Alone’ with Amy Winehouse. I worked with a guy called Dimitri Tikovoï who’s worked with Charlie XCX and Placebo - so I've had some interesting energy put into there so it’s going to be a great album.” We can't wait to hear it.
