Pete Doherty invited the press to a press conference yesterday (June 21) to announce what was billed as an important career move.

The press gathered at the Boogaloo bar in Archway, North London and speculation was rife about the announcement.

Doherty failed to turn up for the conference, but sent his new publisher Ian Preece along who announced the unsuspecting news that the star will be releasing a book.

The very personal autobiographical collection involves 20 volumes of poems, drawings, film reviews and lyrics all condensed into a hard back book.

Ian Preece from The Orion Publishing Group said: "From the early books a fascinating and very entertaining picture emerges of the young poet, broke in London, serving popcorn at the Prince Charles Cinema, dreaming of creating a band infused with the 'spirit of Albion'."

Doherty said in a statement: "I’ve always wanted to have a book published and it's all very exciting for me”.

The book will be published in March 2007.
