Ellie Bleach makes a good point on sly new 70's baroque pop single 'He Bought Me Nikes'. "I was obsessed with the Jonestown Massacre and the Heaven's Gate cult. I kept thinking, what kind of person is so magnetic, so attractive they can lure people to their own deaths?" When she realised that plenty of guys like that exist, she wrote a song about it.

'He Bought Me Nikes' is a wistful keyboard piece that is baroque pop by way of 70s easy listening. Barbed, smart lyrics make this single as sharp and tongue-in-cheek as her previous releases. With a vocal comparable to Alexandra Savior but with the lyrical bite of an English bulldog, Bleach has created a solid, recognisable and deeply enjoyable persona after only a few singles.
One can just imagine Bleach performing this on stage: deadpan through her keyboard playing, deadpan through the arrival of her angelic backing singers, deadpan through her curtain-closing final takedown.
Bleach is donating all profits made from sales of her new single on Bandcamp to Black Lives Matter UK. "It is a very strange time to be releasing my own work" she wrote on Instagram, "I have thought long and hard about how to promote something I am proud of without detracting from the world-wide Civil Rights Movement taking place right now."
