On their new song ‘Football’ Chappaqua Wrestling are embracing a change. Taking a new approach to their sound now settled in Brighton, they’ve taken a sidestep from recent nostalgic singles.

‘Football’ is not afraid to take time to build. One riff is joined by a drum track before slowly more layers are added, a new stroke of paint to add to this largely atmospheric single. “I hate your friends”, singer Charlie Woods declares, shouting out into a landscape that seems to be engulfed by a monochrome filter. Listen below:

Charlie explained, “on ‘Football’ we take one riff and develop it layer after layer, and it grows harder and harder as it moves on. On top of all the brutishness is a story of social displacement, and unease in one’s surroundings. The lyrics were recently added as a homage to our teenage years in Brighton, with some of the social angst of that time.”
